It is time to go West. UK Formula Vee returns to Castle Combe this bank holiday Monday for round four of the championship. 2007 has become what is to be a bumper year for the series with no less than five drivers in for a chance for the title. Reigning champion Sam Oliveira failed to finish the opening three races and now has it all to do. I return to championship Monday, after missing the two rounds at Lydden Hill and I just can't wait to get started. All things considered, this round will be close. By my count there are at least 11 drivers with whom a win would be no great surprise: Sam and Jake Oliveira, Farmer, Hands, Hughes, Buxton, Birch, Evans, Elliot, Lindsay and of course, myself. That makes for a pretty competitive meeting. Last year, Castle Combe was wet almost beyond belief. With no rain fall in the area for over four weeks, one would hope this time it would be different yet the current forecast suggests otherwise. My first goal for the weekend is to be fastest in qualification and benefit from the foundation it brings. Castle Combe uses a two-by-two grid formation as opposed to being staggered like most modern circuits. This effectively annuls the benefit of pole position as both front row starting positions are level. No matter - it is not the benefit I seek but rather the satisfaction. Until Monday.
