Porsche 996 GT3 Test (Racecar Engineering)

Filed under: Racecar Engineering,Testing on April 10, 2008

When Sam Collins (Deputy Editor of Racecar Engineering) left me a voicemail message on Monday night, I wasn’t expecting to be in Cardiff within 24-hours. However, as I am sure he was anticipating, I was more than happy to make the country-wide trip for what he had in mind.

The task was to sample the new Q-Tek sequential gearbox from Quaife, designed for the Porsche 996 GT3, at the Llandow Circuit 20 miles west of the Welsh capital.

Whilst it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to write too much on the subject at this point, it is fair to say that despite its somewhat intimidating demeanour, the 996 GT3 (and Q-Tek box) is amongst the easiest and is certainly the most pleasant car I have ever driven.

Read more about the test and the Q-Tek gearbox in a forthcoming issue of Racecar Engineering.

Thanks goes to Sam and Charles at Racecar Engineering and Peter, Phil and Mike at Quaife for the opportunity.

Bloody hell Martin. What a result!!!!!! All you want now is a permanent team drive and a fat salary!!!!!! Well done mate. Surely it can’t be long before someone gives you the professional drive you deserve or at the very least some decent sponsorship to do something serious in single seaters. You’re getting there mate, slowly but surely!

That is a 997 GT3 and not a 996.

Actually, it is a 996, raced by Phil Quaife in the 2007 Porsche Supercup.
